Product Description
The basic business model of the book publishing industry remained largely unchanged between the Great Depression and the turn of the Millennium. Print a lot of books, try to get them reviewed so that stores would stock them on consignment, advertise, then hope that they don’t come back as returns. Small imprints and self-publishers were reduced to begging distributors to accept their titles at discounts of 60% or more, and were expected to accept returns in any cond… More >>

I have one book out on CD rom…and am an artist that teachers painting. Someone suggested I look into POD options…but I knew so little I went with the first good book recommendation. The book is okay, but so no one commits my error….if you are looking to write a how-to which would include good images, printing with POD is a toner method and images are not good. Save yourself time and money…

I originally wanted to learn a lot more about POD and copyrights. The author does talk about it, but the amount is so little compared to what I eventually found on the internet. I was hoping for a little more insight into the matter. If you are more interested in trying to get it published through a big company, or wanting an agent, or trying to canvas companies, then this is it. To much, though, was spent in this area with respect to the title and the write-up.

this book has no specific info, it is written with broad brush strokes and doesnt have the nitty-gritty details that readers crave, that would hand-hold them through the confusing array of choices in POD publishing. (…)

The book is helpful but if you have read other books on self publishing, the information is pretty much in the same line. I gave it 4 stars because in all of the books I read (at least I) would like to see more referrals to companies such as POD printers and recomendations to good POD printers. I would also personally like to get more info on self- Audio publishing and I have so far been able to find some info online but don’t mind getting some info in a book for which I pay.
I would like to also find out how can an author make sure that he is getting the correct reinbursement and not being scammed by the POD publisher.
Over all, the book is good and the author provides some more information on his website and answers questions you can post there. Find out what works for you and your budget.

This book may contain 75 detailed subjects under 10 general headings, but it has NO INDEX. If you don’t mind not having an index, then this book could be fine. If you are however, like me, and read the index’s first to select information, then I’d pass. Lack of an index saves the author or publisher maybe one-two thousand dollars, but it’s not good for their reader. And their reader is the foundation of their business.
